It has been snowing vigorously since about 8 or 9, and there is quite a bit on the ground. The initial part of the storm seemed to have very tiny flakes, which made the swirls and skirls of of wind currents visible.

Website Work

Back to working on web site today. Trying to get flip cards reading content from files. Wasted about an hour due to a dumb error — uploading the updated file to the wrong place. But in any event, while I am able to read text from a new file, something is going wrong either with reading it into an array or getting it back out. I need to get a more thorough undrestanding of how arrays work, simplify the code I have for random quotes so it does only what I need, and then adapt that for flip cards.

First I will aim to get a basic textual flip card for word definitions going.

After I have that, I will see if I can create a flip card class, with subclasses for different types of flip cards — that will be a nice first project for nailing down my understanding of object-oriented programming.

Rocks and Tech

Went over to C’s today, and we spend an hour and a half talking about rocks and related matters. That was fun. I played around around a bit with different apps for taking photos and capturing information about rock specimens: I think it is clear that Apple Notes is the best suited out of the various things I’ve tried (Noteshelf; photos; …): it allows one to take a picture, mark it up, and dictate a caption; it presumably also captures the location, and automatically shares the information across Apple devices.

New iPhone also arrived today, and so I spent time setting that up. Apple has done a pretty impressive job at automating setup, so that the new phone inherits the setup of the old one. The only instance I can see where they could have done better is to prompt the user to give the new phone a new name — assuming most people are like me and incorporate the phone version into the name.

Had a good piano lesson yesterday. Practiced beforehand, and then went by the store afterwards. Had fish for supper.

Tuesday 2 February 2022 Last night’s impending ‘winter weather’ finally materialized this morning.
