Recap; garden; reviews; cherries

Monday-Wednesday 35 July 2021

How quickly a few days go by. Last entry on July 2nd.

Recap of last few days.

  • Chat with R. Friday the 2nd, after my diary entry, R was walking by when I was on the porch. He stopped in, and we ended up having drinks and chatting for an hour and a bit. Very nice. He seems to be doing OK.
  • Saturday July 3rd: GC Prep. Took KMS to hair appointment. Went for a run while she did that, and continued doing stairways to train for GC. This time I did 6 flights of about 100 stairs each; no ill effects, so will up the amount. Spent some time looking into local geology fieldtrips as a followup to yesterdays PC with CS.
  • Sunday July 4th:Garden and Grilling. We had a garden-oriented day, starting off with a walkthrough of our garden and identification of needed plants, and then a trip to Bachman’s, as well as the Untied’s farm stand which had some orange cone flower we wanted. I spend much of the rest of the day in the garden, getting a few things planted, a few things weeded, and planted the morning glories that I started in the spring — I hope we have devised a way for them to florish and climb. That evening we grilled a chicken with achiote, and KMS made pesto from our garden basil that we had with green beans and corn (the veggies from Untied). I finished Cherry’s “Serpent’s Reach,” which I’m glad to have read for the background, but found it less engaging than many of her books. Went to bed early; neither of us interested in fireworks.

Today

So here we are at Monday, July 5th. A holiday, officially. No construction workers here, and no piano for me. It is expected to be a very hot day, with temperatures in the upper 90s. The heat and humidity are already 80 degrees and a dewpoint of 70, so no running for me today. Started out with a PC with CAH; will finish up the day, probably, with a PC with WAK.

Writing. I have mostly devoted the day to writing: I’ve written reviews of both pieces of writing for this week’s class, entered the thought-blurbs I captured in my phone and notebook on Saturday, and am now catching up on the diary. I also updated my Worldbuilding notes, and after that will check my Journaling notes to see that I am track to have done everything I’ve intended.

Cherries. During the writing, I paused to pit cherries. I’ve finally have come up with a technique that will assure that there are no pits: I pit 10 cherries a time, directing the pits into one bowl, and the remains of the cherries into another. If the number of pits match the number of cherry fruits (kind of a checksum), than I add the cherry fruits to the larger container; otherwise, I eat them.

I will stop here for now. We plan to do a repeat of last nights dinner, using leftovers. I will try to get in a bit of piano, and when it cools down will see if the cherries are still pickable.
